Many people assume that their votes do not count - but, told that they can help change the government, they seize the opportunity with alacrity, despite their extremely low opinion of politicians in general, especially after the expenses scandal. That is encouraging. Marginal seats, by definition, are always significant; this time, as in 1979, they will determine our national destiny. Nick Herbert: There is a compelling case to get the hunting ban off the statute book People have marched and protested. They have travelled up to Westminster to lobby Parliament. But Ministers are deaf to the countryside. Rural communities have been denied a voice, and power has been taken away from local people.

“Since it came to power in 1997, the Labour Government has passed almost 30 laws that restrict shooting in some way. Just because Vote-OK has hunting at its heart does not mean that shooters can sit back and relax – the same MPs who banned hunting will campaign against shooting, given half the chance.”

Hunts are being monitored and harassed by vigilantes, who killed a hunt supporter this year with a gyrocopter. They film anyone they suspect of breaking the law. Would you be happy if you were filmed whenever you had a drink in a pub on the basis that you own a car, so you might be guilty of drink driving? Well, thats what hunt supporters are being subjected to.
